About The University of Barcelona

The University of Barcelona was founded in 1450. Today it boasts a body of 62,696 students and 5,825 research staff. Degrees are offered in 74 different areas with numerous postgraduate and doctorate programmes as well as continuing education courses. The University of Barcelona is the top ranked Spanish university, and the 23rd European institution in scientific quality and productivity. It is the largest of the six universities of Barcelona and of the ten in Catalonia and manages an average of 150 European projects per year. Since January 2010, UB is part of the prestigious League of European Research Universities (LERU). In 2013, the UB signed the European Charter for Researchers to support the EC initiative to improve working conditions of researchers.

Demian Levis is a member of the Statistical Physics group at UB which has access to its dedicated scientific computing infrastructure: the Statistical Physics Supercomputing Lab. Dr. Levis is also the head of the CUCALAB, focused on active granular experiments using self-propelled robots. The lab is equipped with a GoPro fast camera, 80 robots, a 3d printer and an optomechanical system to tune the illumination and confinement conditions of the experiments. The Mechanical Lab (CCiTUB), located at the Faculty of Physics provides technical support.
